If you’ve been waiting for an inboard power cat that does it all, the YOT 53 might just be your next yacht.
Catana Group’s power catamaran brand, YOT, has unveiled its latest model, the YOT 53, marking the company’s entry into the inboard-powered catamaran market. Launched two years ago, YOT Power Catamarans is the third brand under the French boatbuilder, following the success of the YOT 36 and YOT 41 outboard models.
Increased Space and Efficiency
The YOT 53 features a twin-hull design that delivers approximately 40% more surface area compared to a monohull of similar length. This expanded volume allows for increased interior and exterior living space, while maintaining a beam compatible with most Mediterranean marinas.
The twin-hull configuration also contributes to onboard stability and enhanced comfort, both at anchor and underway. In terms of fuel efficiency, the YOT 53 offers lower consumption than comparable monohulls, which may appeal to long-range cruisers seeking more sustainable operations.
Purpose-Built for Powerboating
The YOT 53 was developed in collaboration with J&J Design and Catana Group’s in-house design team. Unlike hybrid designs adapted from sailing catamarans, this model was conceived from the outset for powerboating, focusing on performance, efficiency, and comfort.
A notable feature is the up-and-over aft door, an element inspired by the Bali range of sailing catamarans. This feature creates a seamless transition between the cockpit and the outdoor deck, enhancing the usability of onboard space.
Interior Configuration and Customization
The galley is located at the front of the main deck, arranged in a U-shaped layout that maximizes space and functionality. The owner’s suite spans the full beam of the vessel and includes a king-size bed, a seating area, vanity, bathroom, and access to a private sea-facing terrace.
Two additional cabins, a VIP and a guest cabin include en-suite bathrooms and dedicated storage. An alternative four-cabin configuration is also available, replacing the owner's suite with two forward cabins while retaining access to the front terrace.
Outdoor Amenities and Flexibility
The upper deck of the YOT 53 is equipped with helm seating for two, sun loungers, a bar with grill and refrigeration, and a U-shaped dining or lounge area for up to eight people. According to the builder, the hardtop roof is among the largest in its class, providing shade and visibility in all directions.
The aft cockpit includes modular furniture, fold-down side platforms, and a hydraulic swim platform. This platform also serves as a loading area for water toys or diving equipment and can accommodate a tender, which is managed by a telescopic crane integrated into the roof structure.
Performance and Power Systems
The YOT 53 is available with twin Yanmar engines in 440hp or 550hp configurations. Cruising speeds range between 15 to 18 knots, with a top speed of around 23 knots, depending on the engine option. The shaft-drive propulsion system is designed to minimize vibration and maximize power efficiency.
The model can be outfitted with lithium battery systems supporting a 48V setup, allowing air conditioning and other high-consumption equipment to operate without the need for a generator.
Strategic Development
According to Catana Group’s sales and marketing director, Boris Compagnon, the YOT 53 is part of a broader strategy to diversify the group’s offerings while responding to evolving market demands. The company aims to address current usage patterns and anticipate future preferences, continuing its commitment to twin-hull designs.
The YOT 53 represents Catana Group’s initial foray into inboard-powered catamarans under the YOT brand. By combining increased onboard space, fuel efficiency, and modern amenities, the model is positioned as a practical solution for motorboat owners seeking long-distance cruising capabilities with the benefits of a catamaran platform.
