Made in Greece in 1994, sails to Singapore from 2013-2016 by previous owner, and nearly completely rebuilt by current owner in the past 3 years (2019-2021)
Elessar is pending sale, and now under contract. A gorgeous1994 Dromor Athena 44 foot sloop. She is a proven ocean crossing vessel that benefits from a nearly complete refit over the past 4 years. Her previous owner sailed from Germany, through the Panama canal, ending in Singapore while occasionally carrying paying guests. The current owner purchased her in 2017 and has rebuild almost all of the systems to support long distance cruising while regularly sailing her in waters around Singapore. She is ready to venture back to open water now.
Her unique layout provides 4 private cabins (2 with double beds and 2 with bunk beds), 2 heads, a spacious salon table, and a very large sail locker forward. All living areas of the boat have 2m headroom making her very comfortable as a liveaboard. The salon, heads, and forward cabins were sanded down to raw wood and revarnished / painted with all marine grade finishes in late 2020 to early 2021. The resulting interior finish is very high—just add new salon cushions to your taste and she will look like a significantly more expensive yacht.
The generous salon table will sit 8 comfortably and can lower to create a very large flat space. The galley is fully fitted with a new stove / oven, new countertops, a large refrigerator, portable freezer, and double sinks with hot / cold water. The navigation station with storage is large and includes the vessel’s electronics panels. Rear is 2 double berths, both with room to stand and change clothes with the door shut. The heads are identical and feature sink taps with pull out shower heads and hot and cold water—the port side has an electric head and the starboard side a manual head that were installed in 2020. The two front cabins both boast bunk beds that are great for kids, occasional guests, or massive easily accessible storage. The current owner has used the port side for his 2 sons and the starboard lower bunk for his daughter with storage on the upper bunk. Forward there is a huge sail locker that is accessible by its own deck hatch. The large cockpit will full sun protect will sit 8 comfortably and opens to a large swim platform with its own hot / cold shower.
Under sail Elessar performs well due to her lead keel and spade rudder. Her hull is kept slippery by Copper Coat applied in 2019 that is still in excellent condition. She is equipped with a main, genoa, and asymmetrical spinnaker and will move well even in the light air found in the tropics. All lines are led to the cockpit making single handed sailing possible and double hand sailing a joy. The standing rigging was replaced by the previous owner in 2013 and all running rigging has been upgraded as needed including a new custom Garhauer traveler in 2019. The electronics include Raymarine chart plotters, Raymarine autopilot, ultrasonic wind instrument, and Raymarine depth sounder all connected via a NMEA 2000 backbone.
Elessar is very well equipped as a tropics cruising boat. She has good ventilation through the 14 deck hatches and 7 permanently installed fans (including for all but one berth). The 12,000 BTU marine air conditioner was installed in 2020 and keeps the boat cool while in a marina, even in the Singapore sun. The rear solar arch has 1,045 kW of SunPower solar panels, each pannel connected to its own MPPT charge controller for redundancy. The high current electrical system was totally replaced in 2019 including installation of a 5kW*hr Winston LiFePO4 lithium house bank and installation of all required fuses and safety devices. The overnight draw on the battery is about 25% of the total capacity but the solar panels will bring it back to full power by 11 AM the next day. All fresh water tanks (est 500 liters) were replaced in 2018. The hot water system was installed new in 2021 and will be warmed by the engine or by a DC heating element direct from the solar panels. There is also sufficient extra power from the solar panels to charge the electric dinghy outboard motor and run a water maker to be installed by the next owner. Solar has proven more than sufficient for current need; however, the engine has a 120 amp alternator that could easily be connected to the house bank to provide even more charging.
Speaking of the engine—the 50hp Beta Marine diesel engine was installed new in 2018 and currently has 120 hours as of Aug 2021. It is connected to a MaxProp feathering propeller that is in good condition and substantially reduces drag while sailing. The diesel fuel system was completely replaced in 2018 with new tanks (300 liters), dual fuel filter / water separators, and all new hoses / valves.
Elsessar is ready to go cruising now. The current owner is an engineer by training and has done the refit to a very high level with everything documented in a 110+ page manual.
