You know the word, "catamaran"...but I bet you didn't know it came from the Tamil language spoken in India!

In Tamil, the boats are called kattumaram.

Kattumaram means "tied wood." The name refers to how catamarans are constructed: two pontoons attached to a platform.

This type of boat is widely used by fishermen in South India, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.

The cool thing about a catamaran is that it's a type of boat with two hulls connected by a bridge.

It's like having four legs on the water!

Catamarans can be used for both recreational and sporting purposes, as well as for transportation.

In fact, they are just as comfortable as they are crazy fast. This means that, even if you're going full-speed, you won't feel like you're on a roller coaster!

And one more thing: catamarans can carry a lot of weight, they can carry more people than regular boats without being much bigger, which makes them a fun choice for parties.

Catamarans are considered more stable and much faster than monohulls, which have a single hull.

"Catamaran" is a bit of a mouthful, so feel free to call it a “cat”

We hope you found this information helpful.
