  • SY80 Catamaran by Silent Yachts to Debut at Cannes 2025

With sustainability, innovation, and design at its core, the SY80 is a strong step forward in the future of eco-friendly luxury yachting. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share SY80 Catamaran by Silent Yachts to Debut at Cannes 2025 Aziza | BASCO Team May 15, 2025 With sustainability, innovation, and design at its core, the SY80 is a strong step forward in the future of eco-friendly luxury yachting. Silent Yachts has officially confirmed that its largest solar-electric model to date, the SY80, is nearing completion at its shipyard in Fano, Italy. This impressive new flagship will make its world debut at the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival, set to run from 9 to 14 September. The SY80 catamaran stretches 24 metres in length and brings the same eco-conscious design found in the popular SY62, now on a larger and more luxurious scale. Designed for flexible living, the SY80 is available in three versions: 2-Deck 3-Deck Open 3-Deck Closed Each version is fully customizable to suit the owner's lifestyle and preferences. Owners can choose to include an on-deck master suite or go for a spacious open-plan salon. The master cabin can also be placed on the lower deck, offering more layout freedom than ever before. “We are so excited to introduce our latest model to the market this year,” said Silent Yachts CEO Fabrizio Iarrera. “What sets the SY80 apart is that owners can fully customise every deck to match their needs and personal style. We’re turning dream yachts into reality.” The SY80 can host up to 12 guests, making it perfect for family trips or entertaining. The interior design features large open spaces, multiple staterooms, and storage for water toys and gear. One of the biggest highlights is its solar-electric propulsion system. With a solar array of 22.4 kWp and battery options of 522 kWh or 696 kWh, the yacht runs with quiet, efficient power. It reaches a top speed of 12 knots and cruises comfortably at 7 to 8 knots, offering near-silent and low-emission sailing. So far in 2025, Silent Yachts has already launched two SY62 3-Deck Open units and one SY62 3-Deck Closed unit, with a goal of delivering 10 yachts this year. The launch of the SY80 2-Deck version is expected in the coming weeks, just in time for its grand unveiling in Cannes. With sustainability, innovation, and design at its core, the SY80 is a strong step forward in the future of eco-friendly luxury yachting. IGY Marinas has been appointed to operate the marina at the upcoming Wynn Al Marjan Island resort in Ras Al Khaimah, United Arab Emirates. The marina, which is currently under development, is expected to open in 2027 and will be the second IGY Marinas-managed facility in the Middle East. Located around 50 minutes from Dubai International Airport, the new marina is part of a larger integrated resort project by Wynn Resorts, which will include over 1,500 rooms and various entertainment and leisure amenities. The marina will feature 101 berths, designed to accommodate vessels up to 85 meters in length. IGY Marinas is providing advisory services during the development phase and will handle marina operations and marketing after its opening. The marina’s design has been developed by Marina Solutions International (MSI), a UK-based consultancy. MSI has been involved since 2022, carrying out feasibility studies, market research, and technical design. According to the company, the marina aims to support Ras Al Khaimah's efforts to grow as a coastal destination. Ras Al Khaimah has been positioning itself as an alternative tourism destination in the UAE, focusing on natural landscapes and cultural heritage. The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority reported 1.28 million overnight visitors in 2024, with plans to attract 3.5 million annual visitors by 2030. The new marina is one of several developments supporting this tourism growth strategy. The Wynn Al Marjan Island Marina project involves collaboration between Wynn Resorts, IGY Marinas, and MSI. The partners have emphasized the importance of detailed planning and experienced management in the development of this waterfront facility. With the opening scheduled for 2027, the Wynn Al Marjan Island Marina is expected to add to the region’s growing marine infrastructure. By combining operational expertise from IGY Marinas with detailed design input from MSI, the project reflects a planned approach to marina development in the UAE. As Ras Al Khaimah continues to invest in tourism and coastal projects, this marina could serve as a practical option for visiting yachts and support the emirate’s broader vision for sustainable growth in marine and leisure tourism. Aziza | BASCO Team Mar 26, 2025 The Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter expansion received broad industry support, while a proposed marina on Lamma Island faced skepticism due to concerns about accessibility. The future of Hong Kong’s yachting industry is under discussion as government officials and industry leaders work together to improve marina infrastructure and streamline regulations. A recent meeting between the Chief Executive’s Policy Unit (CEPU), the Development Bureau, and the Marine Department focused on potential marina locations, policy changes, and economic opportunities. One of the key topics discussed was the expansion of existing marinas and the development of new locations. Hung Hom emerged as a strong candidate due to its accessibility and potential to attract public engagement. Industry representatives suggested creating a master plan to develop the area, adding attractions and facilities that could accommodate superyachts and international events. The Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter expansion received broad industry support, while a proposed marina on Lamma Island faced skepticism due to concerns about accessibility. Many yacht owners prefer easily reachable locations with strong transport links. The idea of building a marina near the airport was also considered, as it could streamline customs, immigration, and quarantine (CIQ) procedures. However, stakeholders suggested revising the plan to better meet the needs of the boating community. The discussion also covered regulatory barriers that discourage superyachts from visiting Hong Kong. Some of the biggest challenges include: A shortage of large berths Complicated permit requirements for navigation and berthing Restrictions on tender usage Industry representatives urged the government to simplify clearance procedures and adopt international marina regulations, similar to those in Australia. These reforms would encourage more yachts to visit Hong Kong, boosting the local economy. Hong Kong is currently missing out on significant revenue due to its limited marina infrastructure. With more than 400 superyachts in the Asia-Pacific region, the city has the potential to attract high-value tourism. A visiting superyacht can generate considerable spending on maintenance, refuelling, and hospitality services. However, there is a shortage of skilled workers in the yachting sector. Industry leaders emphasized the need for government-backed workforce training programs and relaxed immigration policies for maritime professionals to support the industry’s growth. A survey conducted by the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association (HKBIA) highlighted industry concerns and preferences for marina development. Respondents strongly supported: Easier clearance for non-Hong Kong-registered boats Simplified procedures for visiting yachts to cruise in local waters Better transport and accessibility for marina locations, especially Lamma Island Industry representatives also proposed adding supercharging stations for hybrid yachts, shipyard services, and on-site customs and immigration facilities. They stressed the need to align marina developments with urban planning initiatives to position Hong Kong as a leading yachting destination. The government’s willingness to engage with industry stakeholders signals a growing recognition of the economic and tourism potential of Hong Kong’s maritime sector. Moving forward, policy reforms and infrastructure investments will determine the city’s role in the regional yachting market. If implemented successfully, these initiatives could make Hong Kong a premier superyacht hub in Asia.
