- Last minute charter boat bookings available to snag by online bidding
Pilot program to be launched to auction last minute spare boat rental capacity & spaces for the public - Basco Boating News - Written by Dione Schick < Back Share Last minute charter boat bookings available to snag by online bidding Dione Schick Apr 12, 2022 Pilot program to be launched to auction last minute spare boat rental capacity & spaces for the public BASCO's Boat Guru Marketplace will be utilised to offer a unique discount service to charter boat guests. Inspired by Last Minute dot Com hotel and vacation deals, BASCO announces the pilot of a bidding system for unutilised charter boat trips, or as a way to fill the gap from last minute cancellations by guests. 4-hour charters will be listed on Boat Guru Marketplace within 3-days of the planned trip. The charter will start with an opening bid, which may be below the confidential reserve price set by the charter operator. Once the reserve price is met, the highest bidder wins the trip at the discounted price. William Schick, co-founder of BASCO Boating explains that this idea has been in the making for quite few years but now the time is right to trial the discount pricing strategy which will benefit both the charter operators who have been left with spare capacity following cancellations. It's a great opportunity to spontaneously get on the water fast and at a good price! Keep an eye out at www.boatguru.app and the promotions will be listed in the Boating Facebook Groups as well as be publicly advertised on social media. Media Gallery ← Previous Next →
- Gulf Craft Adds Crypto as a Payment Option
The UAE-based yacht builder has partnered with Bahrain-licensed fintech company ARP Pay to roll out a regulated stable coin payment solution. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share Gulf Craft Adds Crypto as a Payment Option Aziza | BASCO Team Jul 30, 2025 The UAE-based yacht builder has partnered with Bahrain-licensed fintech company ARP Pay to roll out a regulated stable coin payment solution. Gulf Craft is stepping into the future of finance by offering a new way for clients to pay using cryptocurrency. The UAE-based yacht builder has partnered with Bahrain-licensed fintech company ARP Pay to roll out a regulated stable coin payment solution. That means buyers can now use digital currencies like USDT and USDC to purchase yachts, request services, or even pay for refits. But don’t worry, this isn’t just about riding the crypto wave. There’s a practical edge too. Payments made in stablecoins are converted into AED or USD, helping reduce costs and making things easier for Gulf Craft’s growing international customer base. “Our goal has always been to adapt and lead,” says Mohammed Hussein Alshaali, Gulf Craft’s chairman. “The UAE was built on innovation, especially in maritime trade. So accepting regulated digital payments is a natural next step.” This isn’t just an idea on paper. The company has already tested the system in a real-world transaction, with a portion of a yacht’s price paid through cryptocurrency. The trial helped them gauge how crypto fits into the buying process and fine-tune the experience for future clients. Group CEO Erwin Bamps explains the motivation behind the move: “Adding a crypto option future-proofs our customer experience. We want to be where the world is heading, not where it used to be.” Whether someone’s buying a Majesty yacht, a Nomad, or even an Oryx or SilverCAT model, they now have a fast, transparent, and compliant payment method at their fingertips. This initiative also reflects the UAE’s broader push to become a hub for digital assets and fintech. Gulf Craft’s move aligns with national strategies supporting regulated digital finance, including VARA and the growth of crypto-friendly free zones. In short? Yacht shopping just got a tech upgrade. With the towering Mt Vesuvius in the background, Naples promises a dramatic and unforgettable race setting. Naples has officially been selected as the host city for the 38th America’s Cup in 2027. This marks the first time Italy hosts this prestigious global sailing competition The decision was revealed by the Italian Government in partnership with Team New Zealand and the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, confirming that the iconic Louis Vuitton America’s Cup and its preliminary events will unfold along the stunning coastline of Naples. The events will take place in the waters between Castel dell’Ovo and Posillipo, with Bagnoli serving as the central base for the teams. Italian Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, called the announcement a “tremendous opportunity” to promote Italy's natural beauty, sportsmanship, and economic development. He emphasized that hosting the Cup will not only elevate Italy’s global sporting presence but also help foster ocean-related education, sustainability, and economic growth. The event is also seen as a catalyst for revitalization, especially in Bagnoli, an area that has long awaited urban renewal. Minister of Economy and Finance, Giancarlo Giorgetti, confirmed that the Cup will boost Naples' development and showcase its readiness for large-scale international events. Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi added that the Cup represents one of the city's biggest sporting achievements to date and will provide a major economic and tourism boost, just as it did in cities like Barcelona and Valencia. He praised the collaborative efforts of local and national authorities in securing this win. Grant Dalton, CEO of Team New Zealand, expressed excitement over the choice of Naples, noting Italy’s deep passion for the sport and the fierce competition posed by teams like Luna Rossa. He said bringing the Cup to Naples aligns with efforts to make the sport more accessible and visible globally. David Blakey, Commodore of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, celebrated the return of the Cup to Europe, recognizing Italy’s long-standing involvement and vibrant sailing community. He highlighted the upcoming Youth and Women’s Regattas, also to be held in Naples. This time, the city is ready to deliver an even larger, more impactful event. With the combination of heritage, natural beauty, and a bold vision for the future, Naples is poised to set a new standard for hosting the America’s Cup, and to inspire a new generation of sailors and spectators alike. - Cape Town’s Marine Industry Takes Charge of 2025 Boat Show
“This is a boat show by the industry, for the industry,” organisers shared. “It will operate on a cost-only, breakeven basis, but still meet international standards.” - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share Cape Town’s Marine Industry Takes Charge of 2025 Boat Show Aziza | BASCO Team Jul 24, 2025 “This is a boat show by the industry, for the industry,” organisers shared. “It will operate on a cost-only, breakeven basis, but still meet international standards.” Cape Town’s marine sector is taking charge in 2025, bringing back its iconic boat show with a fresh, industry-driven approach. For the first time, the Cape Town Boat Show will be led and managed by local marine organisations, “SABBEX”(South African Boat Builders Export Council) and “BlueCape” in partnership with the V&A Waterfront. Unlike previous years, where the event was managed by external organisers, this year’s show will be guided directly by key industry bodies. “This is a boat show by the industry, for the industry,” organisers shared. “It will operate on a cost-only, breakeven basis, but still meet international standards.” Following global examples where boat shows are often owned and directed by industry associations, SABBEX and BlueCape will set the strategic direction, while a dedicated operations team will handle logistics, execution, and on-the-ground experience. The idea is to combine deep industry knowledge with event expertise to create a sustainable, long-term solution for South Africa’s leading boat show. This year’s show will run from October 24–26, and hopes are high for a strong comeback after a dip in attendance over the past few years. In 2023, just over 4,000 visitors and 61 exhibitors attended, down from nearly 8,500 attendees and 93 exhibitors in 2018. But with a new leadership model and fresh energy, there’s optimism that 2025 will set a new standard. Adding to the buzz is the African Boating Conference, taking place at the V&A Waterfront from October 21–22, just ahead of the boat show. The conference aims to highlight Africa’s growing marine industry, including bold plans to position Cape Town as a superyacht service and repair hub. SABBEX and BlueCape are also working closely with industry partners to attract quality exhibitors and increase footfall, while reinforcing the boat show’s long-term value to the sector. “With collective support, this boat show will become the flagship event for South Africa’s marine sector — uniting, strengthening, and setting the course for a thriving future,” said the organisers. The Cape Town Boat Show has come a long way since its humble beginnings in 1995 at the Royal Cape Yacht Club. It later moved to Green Point Stadium and the Cape Town International Convention Centre, drawing large crowds. Now, it’s returning with a renewed focus, guided by those who know the industry best. - Preparing Your Boat for Sale, Now it's Our Turn
Practicing what we preach in preparing for a fast and effortless boat sale - Basco Boating News - Written by Dione Schick < Back Share Preparing Your Boat for Sale, Now it's Our Turn Dione Schick Feb 24, 2022 Practicing what we preach in preparing for a fast and effortless boat sale Ages and stages come and go in life, and also in boating life, which is no different. We bought our first boat (yes, unbelievably we were first-time boat buyers at around, plus or minus, 50-years of age) almost 10 years ago now, isn't it incredible how time flies. If you want to read about Why I Bought a Boat Even Though I Couldn't Afford It , click the link to see how boat ownership has brought such joy and meaning to our lives! Now, 10-years on and pushing 60 years of age (well one of us anyway lol), we have new goals and family milestones to attend to! While neither of us really want to disrupt the incredible boating lifestyle, boating events, marina memories, boat owner friends and on-water activities that we have been privileged to enjoy over the last 10-years, the time has gone by so very quickly, we must prepare for the next stage of our lives, and reluctantly this includes putting our beautiful boat Sea Kiwi on the market for sale. Yes, we will be buying a replacement boat, but it will be much smaller! Sea Kiwi for sale is a 1999 Navigator Pilothouse 61' Flybridge Motor Yacht and we'll be running a series of videos featuring "Boat Guru" William Schick about what it will take to get our boat ready for sale and on the market and how we will go through the process of a sale. So stay tuned if you're interested to find out about selling your boat. Sea Kiwi has been an incredibly lovely boat to own and liveaboard over the last 5 years or so since we sold our house and officially became "boat people". Living aboard has been fabulous for us at our age and stage. When we first viewed Sea Kiwi, there were so many remarkable things about the boat that it was scary how quickly it was obvious that it was the exact right boat for us. From the swim platform, to the two entry doors into the cockpit, to the fact that we could accommodate not only an 8 seater dining table there, and many other features of this boat made it perfect for us. Our 3 children had all left Singapore for work and study in Australia and New Zealand so it was an ideal time for us to embrace the lifestyle that suited our recent "empty nest" situation. Not to mention my unexpected and therefore quite distressing redundancy from corporate Singapore 5-years ago, boat life has been soothing for the soul and a great place to manage the crazy busy-ness of building a brand new company. So, what does it take to prepare your boat for sale? Follow us over the next weeks and months while we scrub, polish and maintain Sea Kiwi so she is in the best light to be passed to her new owners. We're excited to share the journey with you, it's not only about selling our first boat, but taking the next step in our boating journey. Look forward to sharing it with you. - Have you ever heard the term Bareboat charter?
Let's take a look at another nautical term today and see how it developed and why it is important today. - Basco Boating News - Written by BASCO Team < Back Share Have you ever heard the term Bareboat charter? BASCO Team Feb 16, 2023 Let's take a look at another nautical term today and see how it developed and why it is important today. We've always been interested in nautical terms. I think it's the precision, accuracy, and clarity of detail in which sailors speak that makes us want to learn more about them. I think it's safe to say that we are all familiar with some Nautical terms, even if it's just "ahoy" or "adrift". So, let's take a look at another nautical term today and see how it developed and why it is important today. Bareboat Charter. The term “bareboat” is used to refer to a boat rental agreement, by which one may rent a boat without a crew. A bareboat is a type of agreement in which a renter purchases the right to use a boat without additional services. Bareboating is often done to save money or to get the bareboat charter operator time on the water while they look for steady paying work. From the early days of sailing, the rise of the bareboat charter has been traced back to wealthy merchants looking for a way to make money. In those days, ships were often owned by wealthy merchants who hired captains with crews and cargo to sail on voyages that could last for months or even years at a time. At the end of the voyage, there was no guarantee that any profits would be returned to them; in fact, they were often left out of the loop entirely. To avoid this situation, merchants began hiring crews themselves and purchasing ships outright, which they would then rent out to captains who needed them for voyages. This allowed merchants to maintain control over their ships' use and profit from them directly. This gave birth to what we know today as bareboat chartering—a practice where an owner rents out his or her ship for a specified period of time at an agreed-upon price. A bareboat charter is a perfect way to get out on the water without having to worry about the ownership details. You can rent a boat from a marina, or you can rent from a private owner. Either way, you'll need to make sure that your boat is insured for whatever length of time you're planning on using it. Bareboat chartering is a great way to explore the world, and it's also a fantastic way to make money. It's a win-win situation! -- Do you know a boat that's been rented out many times can look worn out, and it may not have any of your own personal touches on it? It's true! If you're renting a boat, there's a good chance it hasn't been updated in years. That means the decor is outdated and the appliances are old and inefficient. But the most important factor is YOU. You deserve to live your life on a boat that reflects who you are as a person, with all the comforts of home—and now there's no reason why you shouldn't buy your boat! We know it's difficult to own a boat. That's why we offer you a blueprint that will teach you everything about boat ownership in 3 days! We've put together this blueprint for unlocking all of the secrets of owning a boat yourself. So don't delay, get started now>> https://bit.ly/3tYXT4a Media Gallery ← Previous Next →
