The result is a yacht with reflective surfaces that capture and mirror the sea, sky, and light around it. Azimut has unveiled the Magellano 27M, the latest addition to its crossover Magellano series, ahead of the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival. This model represents a new design philosophy, balancing modern architecture with timeless style to create a yacht that blends long-range performance with comfort and elegance. The Magellano 27M was designed by Jarkko Jämsén, who combined sharp industrial precision with softer, sculptural curves. The result is a yacht with reflective surfaces that capture and mirror the sea, sky, and light around it. Azimut’s vision for this model is to maintain a design that will remain relevant and contemporary for decades to come. On the inside, the Magellano 27M stands out for its architectural approach. Created by AMDL CIRCLE in collaboration with Michele De Lucchi, the main deck has been reimagined as a “loggia,” essentially a suspended terrace that bridges the indoors and outdoors. Natural light, warm wooden finishes, and subtle metallic accents create an inviting atmosphere designed for both relaxation and extended voyages. This model embodies Azimut’s aim of producing yachts capable of undertaking long journeys while maintaining comfort and luxury. Whether anchored in calm waters or cruising across longer routes, the Magellano 27M offers a blend of functionality and sophistication. Federico Lantero, head of product design at Azimut, highlighted that the Magellano 27M is built to preserve its contemporary appeal over time. The launch of the Magellano 27M marks the third generation in Azimut’s crossover series. It continues the brand’s pursuit of yachts that merge the spirit of exploration with high-end design. The official debut will take place at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, but anticipation is already high after its early reveal. Media Release 24 April 2023 For Immediate Release BASCO Boating Launches BoatSellPro™: An Innovative, Convenient and Hassle-Free Digital Boat Brokerage in Asia BoatSellPro™ is available to boat sellers worldwide, offering a convenient way to list and sell their boats without having to see it locally The digital platform aims to eliminates confusion and high brokerage fees for boat sellers Co-founder and Director of BASCO Boating, Dione Schick in front of the Princess 56 Flybridge Singapore, 24 April 2023 - BASCO Boating , the premier boating platform in Asia-Pacific, has launched BoatSellPro™, a groundbreaking programme that provides a comprehensive solution for boat sellers. The launch of BoatSellPro™ coincides with the Singapore Yachting Festival and aims to help boat sellers achieve their goals of selling their boats 33% faster and at a significantly reduced cost, eliminating the need for expensive boat brokers and removing any ambiguity about the best way to sell their boat. According to Dione Schick, Co-founder and Director of BASCO Boating , the traditional boat brokerage model is often focused on selling boats to buyers at the highest profit, rather than truly assisting the boat owner in selling their boat. As a result, many boat sellers are left with confusion about the best way to sell their boat, a lack of clarity about what the boat is worth, and high brokerage fees. “When you sell your boat, there are a lot of questions like, what is the boat worth, what is the best pricing strategy and how long will it take to sell the boat. BASCO’s BoatSellPro™ solution can help you with all of that. We'll take care of all of the planning, pricing and promotion. This means that boat owners don't have to worry about anything except selling their boat. We’ll make sure every boat sale project goes smoothly, so that boat owners can focus on getting the best possible price for their boats” said Schick. The digital boat brokerage allows boat owners to list, market and sell their boats without an expensive boat broker having to see it locally, which makes it more convenient and accessible. Digital boat brokers can help boat owners sell their boat even if they are not in the same country as the buyer. People can list their boat for sale on the platform and buyers from anywhere in the world can see it and make an offer. BoatSellPro™ offers a complete step-by-step program that is tailored to meet the specific needs of boat sellers. The program includes a crystal clear and predictable 9-step roadmap that helps boat sellers understand the value of their boat, determine the best selling price, and market their boat effectively to potential buyers. The digital boat brokerage is the result of years of research and testing in the marine industry. Dione Schick has been working in the industry for over 35 years and has become obsessed with improving the boat sale results for boat owners. Through trial and error, Schick was able to piece together the methods that worked. This led to a significant transformation in her clients’ boat sale results, and people began approaching her, asking how they could achieve the same results. BoatSellPro™ is available to boat sellers worldwide, and interested boat owners, captains, and agents can book a call with the BASCO Boating team to learn more about the program and how it can help them sell their boats faster and at half the cost. With BoatSellPro™, BASCO Boating continues its mission to empower members of the boating community to lead a more fulfilling boating lifestyle with the most comprehensive boating knowledge and efficient boating services. BoatSellPro™ is just one of the many services offered by BASCO Boating, which provides everything for your boating lifestyle all in one place, including buying and selling boats, charters, parts, and accessories. According to data from the Marine Manufacturers Association, the median age of a boat owner historically was 58 years old. However, in recent years, the average age of first-time boaters has dropped to 46 years old. Boating has traditionally been considered an expensive hobby, with the average boater being middle-aged. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought about changes in the demographics of boat owners, with younger generations entering the recreational boating scene. According to data from the Marine Manufacturers Association, the median age of a boat owner historically was 58 years old. However, in recent years, the average age of first-time boaters has dropped to 46 years old. This shift is partly attributed to the pandemic, which led to increased interest in outdoor activities, including boating. As more people looked for safe and socially distant activities during the pandemic, recreational boating became an attractive option. Boating not only allowed for a change of scenery and a break from the monotony of lockdowns but also offered an opportunity for families to bond and spend time together in a safe and enjoyable way. This trend is further reflected in the sales of boats, which surged during the pandemic. In 2020, sales of new powerboats in the US increased by 12% compared to the previous year, with a total of 310,000 new boats sold. This growth was fueled by demand from new boaters, who made up 43% of all boat buyers in 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic has played a significant role in changing the demographics of boaters, with younger generations now entering the recreational boating scene. This trend is likely to continue even after the pandemic as more people recognize the benefits of boating as a fun and safe outdoor activity. P.S. Are you dreaming of setting sail on the open seas and exploring the vast, beautiful ocean? Look no further! Whether you’re interested in powerboat or sailboat, we’ve got the right boat for you. - The Shocking Attack on a Norwegian Bulker in the Singapore Strait
The region, known for its bustling trade routes, is becoming an increasingly dangerous area for vessels, with several recent incidents raising alarms. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share The Shocking Attack on a Norwegian Bulker in the Singapore Strait Aziza | BASCO Team Feb 18, 2025 The region, known for its bustling trade routes, is becoming an increasingly dangerous area for vessels, with several recent incidents raising alarms. If you’re in the shipping industry or closely following maritime security, you’ve probably heard about the rising concerns surrounding piracy in the Singapore Strait. The region, known for its bustling trade routes, is becoming an increasingly dangerous area for vessels, with several recent incidents raising alarms. Just this past Sunday night, two vessels were boarded within 15 minutes of each other. According to maritime intelligence company Ambrey Analytics, the attacks took place just off Kapalajernih Island, Indonesia, and have added to the growing list of piracy incidents in the area. The First Incident: Malaysian-Flagged Product Carrier The first ship to be attacked was a Malaysian-flagged product carrier. As it was heading eastward through the narrow Philip Channel, just four nautical miles north of Kapalajernih Island, six men boarded the vessel. The pirates, armed with knives, boarded the ship while it was traveling at a speed of 7 knots. Fortunately, the ship was able to continue its journey toward Port Dickinson, Malaysia, though it’s still unclear whether any valuables were stolen during the boarding. A Second Attack Moments Later No sooner had the first incident occurred than a second vessel. A Norwegian-flagged bulk carrier was targeted just 15 minutes earlier. This ship was transiting eastbound, much like the first, and was heading from Port Klang in Malaysia to Fangcheng in China. The attack happened only two miles from the site of the first boarding. The pirates were reportedly armed with knives and some sort of gun-like objects, making the situation even more alarming. This vessel had a freeboard of 5.1 meters and was traveling at 9.6 knots when the attack took place. Why the Singapore Strait? These recent attacks are part of a much larger trend that has been taking place in the Singapore Strait since late December. In fact, the latest two incidents bring the total number of attacks in the area to at least nine. And while piracy isn’t new to the region, what’s concerning is the consistency and severity of these attacks. Most of the incidents so far have involved bulk carriers, which are particularly vulnerable because they tend to have lower freeboards (the distance between the waterline and the ship's deck). Vessels with freeboards under 10 meters are particularly at risk, making them prime targets for piracy. What Should Ships Do to Protect Themselves? Given the rising threat, maritime experts are urging crews to take preventive measures. Here are some steps that can help ensure the safety of the vessel and crew: Lock Down Access Points : Ensure that all access to the accommodation block and ship's stores is secured. Regular Deck Patrols : Conduct regular patrols of the deck to spot any suspicious activity or individuals. Stay Alert : Remain vigilant, especially when passing through high-risk areas. Communication with nearby vessels and security teams can provide valuable information in case of threats. The frequency of these attacks serves as a harsh reminder that maritime piracy is still a very real threat. For those navigating these busy and perilous waters, the importance of staying alert and taking necessary precautions cannot be overstated. As these recent boardings highlight, pirates are becoming bolder, and the stakes are getting higher. Stay safe out there! Media Gallery ← Previous Next →

Located in Pasir Gudang, within the recently inaugurated Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone, the new facility increases Grand Banks’ manufacturing yard by 143,300ft² (13,313m²), marking a 25% expansion to a total of nearly 700,000ft² (65,032m²). This expansion not only increases production capacity but also allows the company to consolidate more of its manufacturing processes under one roof, streamlining efficiency and quality control. During the official opening, Grand Banks CEO Mark Richards, alongside company directors, led a tour of the modernized facility. Customers, business partners, and shareholders witnessed firsthand the advanced equipment and technology that will define the next generation of Grand Banks, Palm Beach, and Eastbay yachts. The new facility boasts advanced technological capabilities, including an on-site eight-axis rotor robotics system, a dedicated testing pool, and high-tech engineering labs. These features enable Grand Banks to construct larger yachts with unparalleled precision, craftsmanship, and efficiency. The integration of optimized resin infusion techniques and precise material blends further enhances the company’s proprietary V-Warp Technology, ensuring stronger, lighter, and more fuel-efficient hulls. Sustainability is also a key focus of this expansion. Solar panels installed on the facility’s rooftop contribute to powering operations, reflecting Grand Banks' commitment to reducing its environmental footprint while maintaining high manufacturing standards. Strengthening Market Presence The timing of this expansion aligns well with Grand Banks’ growing global presence, particularly in North America. With an expanding customer base and increased marketing efforts, the company’s order book remains strong, standing at S$109.8 million as of December 31, 2024. Grand Banks chairman Basil Chan emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion, stating, “This investment enhances our production quality, operational efficiencies, and economies of scale. By integrating advanced technologies and refining our processes, we are building a stronger foundation to serve our customers better and create lasting value for our shareholders.” With this significant expansion, Grand Banks Yachts is well-positioned to continue delivering luxury yachts that embody innovation, craftsmanship, and performance, reinforcing its legacy in the global boating industry.
