- This New Solar-Electric Catamaran Glides at 12 Knots
Powered by twin 150 kW electric motors, the Oceanwalker S60e offers a top speed of up to 12 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of around 7 to 8 knots. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share This New Solar-Electric Catamaran Glides at 12 Knots Aziza | BASCO Team Jun 12, 2025 Powered by twin 150 kW electric motors, the Oceanwalker S60e offers a top speed of up to 12 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of around 7 to 8 knots. The move toward sustainable technology in the marine industry continues with the introduction of the Oceanwalker S60e, a new solar-electric catamaran developed by Revolution Marine Group. Solar-Electric Performance Powered by twin 150 kW electric motors, the Oceanwalker S60e offers a top speed of up to 12 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of around 7 to 8 knots. While specific figures on battery-only range haven’t been disclosed, the yacht is equipped with two 45 kW diesel generators, which allow for extended travel up to 800 nautical miles when needed. A key feature of the S60e is its 10 kW solar array, which supplies power to essential onboard systems. Energy collected from the sun is stored in lithium phosphate batteries, supporting daily functions such as air conditioning, electric cooking, and laundry. This setup helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, especially during shorter journeys or while anchored. Comfort and Layout Though full interior details are not yet public, the Oceanwalker S60e is expected to be offered in three- or four-cabin layouts. The aft section features a lounge and dining area, designed for both comfort and functionality. The catamaran’s structure balances open space with energy-efficient systems, making it suitable for extended time at sea. Under Construction The first unit of the S60e is currently being built at the Fujian Sky Walker shipyard in Zhangzhou, China, with delivery expected in April 2026. According to Revolution Marine Group CEO Edward Sacks, their engineering team is closely monitoring each phase of the build to meet performance and quality standards. Club Ki’ama Bahamas Partnership The initial Oceanwalker S60e will be delivered to Club Ki’ama Bahamas, a new shared-ownership yacht and residence club located near Great Exuma. The club promotes the use of solar energy for both its oceanfront homes and its fleet, and the S60e aligns with that goal. As more boaters seek environmentally responsible options, vessels like the Oceanwalker S60e show how clean energy and practical design can come together. While it may not aim to revolutionize the industry overnight, it's a clear step toward cleaner oceans and smarter, more sustainable boating. Media Gallery ← Previous Next →
- How does a proxy bid work to save you time and effort?
A proxy bid saves you time and effort. - Basco Boating News - Written by BASCO Team < Back Share How does a proxy bid work to save you time and effort? BASCO Team Jan 29, 2023 A proxy bid saves you time and effort. If you want to be a higher bidder on a boat, then proxy bidding can help. It's simple! A proxy bid saves you time and effort. You simply enter the maximum that you wish to bid for the boat. This is kept confidential at all times. The system will then automatically bid, by increment, depending upon other bids being made, up to your maximum bid on your behalf. If there are no other bidders then your proxy is not used and you remain the high bidder. For example, you decide that the maximum you wish to pay for a boat is $100,000. The current bid is at $80,000 and is incrementally rising by $1,000 per bid. Once you enter your confidential maximum of $100,000, once another bidder makes a bid of $81,000, your proxy will automatically bid at $82,000. You will remain the high bidder unless someone bids again and the process repeats until it reaches $100,000 and the bidding continues without your bids unless you set another proxy. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions on the boat or the online auction. Media Gallery ← Previous Next →
- Attention Boat Brokers! Struggling to Sell More Boats? Let BASCO Boating Help You Close Deals Faster!
Let’s get real for a second. If you’ve ever tried selling boats without a solid system or a trusted brand backing you up, you already know the struggle. It’s not just about listing a boat and hoping for the best. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share Attention Boat Brokers! Struggling to Sell More Boats? Let BASCO Boating Help You Close Deals Faster! Aziza | BASCO Team Mar 29, 2025 Let’s get real for a second. If you’ve ever tried selling boats without a solid system or a trusted brand backing you up, you already know the struggle. It’s not just about listing a boat and hoping for the best. Are You Facing These Challenges? ❌ You’ve got boats sitting on your listings for months, and serious buyers just aren’t showing up. Super frustrating, right? And let’s be real, if no one’s actually seeing your boats, how are they supposed to sell? ❌ There’s the constant back-and-forth with people who seem interested but never actually commit. Wasting time on unqualified leads? That’s exhausting. ❌ When you finally do get a potential buyer, the whole process feels messy. No clear strategy, no consistency, just hoping for the best. If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone . Many boat brokers face these exact challenges. Frustration. Exhaustion. Lost Deals. What Does It REALLY Mean to Have Something vs. Going at It Alone? Let’s get real for a second. If you’ve ever tried selling boats without a solid system or a trusted brand backing you up, you already know the struggle. It’s not just about listing a boat and hoping for the best. It’s about fighting an uphill battle every single day. You’re stuck in a cycle of trial and error, never knowing what works. Buyers hesitate, second-guess, and disappear without a trace. One month is good, the next is dry, and you have no idea why. Now, contrast that with partnering with a power house brand. One that has the systems, the reach, and the trust of serious buyers. You may think what powerhouse brand means? Brand Power Means: ✔ Instant credibility ✔ Access to a steady flow of high-intent leads ✔ A proven, structured approach So, the real question is: Do you want to keep gambling on boat sales, or do you want a real strategy that works? Collaborate with BASCO Boating At BASCO Boating, we take the guesswork out of boat sales and help you close more deals, faster. Sailing has always captured the imagination of adventurers, navigators, and maritime enthusiasts. Among the numerous components that influence a vessel's performance, stability, and navigational capabilities, the keel holds a significant place. This article delves into the fascinating world of bilge keels, their various forms like fin keels and central fin keels, and how these nautical devices affect the rolling motion and overall performance of boats and ships. What is a Bilge Keel? A bilge keel is a structural element attached to the bottom of a boat, running longitudinally along the bilge, the lowest point of the hull where the sides meet the bottom. Bilge keels serve multiple purposes, including reducing rolling motion, providing additional stability, and minimizing sideways slippage. They are particularly useful in shallow waters and for many small craft owners who navigate these regions. Types of Keels: Bilge Keel vs. Fin Keel Bilge Keel This type of keel is attached to either side of the hull and is designed to dampen the rolling motion of the vessel. Bilge keels are common on larger boats, commercial vessels, and some small craft owners appreciate their roll damping benefits. Fin Keel A single fin keel or central fin keel extends downward from the hull's centerline, offering reduced drag and improved speed. Fin keels are popular among sailors looking for enhanced performance and are often found on racing yachts and modern cruising boats. The Role of Bilge Keels in Stability Bilge keels are renowned for their ability to reduce a ship's tendency to roll in response to wind and waves. This roll damping capability is crucial for maintaining comfort and safety, particularly in rough seas. Internal stiffening members and butt welds ensure that the bilge keel remains securely attached to the hull, even under challenging conditions. Advantages of Bilge Keels Stability and Roll Damping One of the primary benefits of bilge keels is their ability to dampen the rolling motion of the vessel, making for a more comfortable and stable experience for sailors. Suitability for Shallow Waters Bilge keels extend outward rather than downward, allowing boats to navigate shallow waters without the risk of grounding. This feature makes bilge keels a popular choice among small craft owners and larger boats alike. Ease of Repairs Bilge keels can often be repaired more easily than central fin keels, as they do not require the vessel to be hauled out of the water completely. This accessibility is particularly beneficial for commercial vessels and recreational boat owners. Continuous Performance The design of bilge keels allows for continuous performance, even in challenging conditions. They are equipped to handle the stress of waves, wind, and tides without significant failure. Drawbacks and Considerations Drag and Speed While bilge keels offer many advantages, they also introduce additional drag, which can slow the vessel down compared to fin keels. Sailors must weigh the benefits of stability against the potential decrease in speed. Construction Complexity The construction of bilge keels involves intricate welding and attachment processes. Mistakes in the construction phase can lead to performance issues or even structural failure. Suitability for Different Models Bilge keels are not suitable for all boat models. While many boats can benefit from bilge keels, their suitability depends on the vessel's design, intended use, and operating environment. Bilge Keels in Modern Sailing Today, bilge keels continue to be a popular choice for a variety of vessels, from small crafts to larger boats. Their ability to provide stability, reduce rolling motion, and allow for safe navigation in shallow waters makes them an indispensable component for many boat owners. Innovations and Future Trends The future of bilge keels lies in innovative materials and construction techniques. Advances in lightweight composites and more efficient manufacturing processes will likely enhance the performance and durability of bilge keels, making them even more attractive to sailors and boat builders. By understanding the function and benefits of the bilge keel can greatly enhance your sailing experience. Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Tips for First Time Boat Buyer Additionally, one of the primary concerns for prospective boat buyers is ensuring that the chosen vessel meets their needs and budget. Whether it’s the size of the boat, the features it offers, or potential hidden damage or mechanical issues, these are all critical factors to consider. If you can relate to these concerns as a first-time boat buyer, we recommend reviewing This information to become well-informed and make the best choice for your sailing adventures. Navigating the world of boat ownership for the first time can feel overwhelming. At BASCO Boating, we understand the excitement and apprehension that comes with this new adventure. Our experienced team is here to guide you every step of the way, from selecting the perfect boat to match your needs and budget to understanding maintenance and safety best practices. We believe in building long-lasting relationships with our customers, ensuring you have the knowledge and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of boating memories. Contact us today for a personalized consultation and let us help you embark on your boating journey with ease and confidence. Conclusion In summary, bilge keels play a vital role in enhancing the stability and performance of boats and ships. While they may introduce some drag, their advantages in terms of roll damping, ease of repairs, and suitability for shallow waters make them a valuable asset for many sailors. Understanding the nuances of bilge keels, including their construction, benefits, and limitations, allows boat owners to make informed decisions and optimize their sailing experience. Northumbria holds the inspiring tale of Grace Darling, a local heroine who risked her life in a raging storm to rescue shipwrecked sailors off the Farne Islands in the early 19th century. Few will recall the distinctive features of Grace’s wooden boat, which is now housed at her namesake museum in the village of Bamburgh, with its broad sides, flat bottom and high bow. But only some people will know that her boat was a coble – a vessel peculiar to the northeast and one that is disappearing. The coble boat is a type of fishing boat traditionally used in the North East of England. It is a small, open boat with a flat bottom and high sides, designed for fishing in shallow waters. The distinctive shape of the boat — flat-bottomed and high-bowed — arose to cope with the particular conditions prevalent in this area. Flat bottoms allowed launching from and landing upon shallow, sandy beaches; an advantage in this part of the coast where the wide bays and inlets provided little shelter from stormy weather. However, fishermen required high bows to sail in the dangerous North Sea and in particular to launch into the surf and to land on the beaches. The design contains relics of Norse influence, though in the main it shows Dutch origin. The coble is usually propelled by a sail or oars and has a small cabin or shelter for the fishermen. In modern times, Cobles generally use diesel engines, removing the need for the distinctively shaped lug sail. The modern cobles often have a small wheelhouse forward, perhaps a half deck to shelter the engine, and gantries to support line haulers; both possible because there is now no sailing gear. That’s all for today! If you have any questions about Coble, please let us know. P.S.
