  • BASCO Sets Their Strategic Direction

10-year growth roadmap developed - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza Ahmed < Back Share BASCO Sets Their Strategic Direction Aziza Ahmed Sep 12, 2022 10-year growth roadmap developed The BASCO Board of Directors gave the green light for the company's growth strategy recently, following a 1-year branding & positioning consultancy project undertaken in 2021, then a 9-month strategy transformation project with consultants BDO, which is completing shortly. Supported by Enterprise Singapore, BASCO has been awarded two government grants to undertake the consultancy projects. Dione Schick, co-founder and CEO of BASCO said of the two projects: "Both projects have been very important strategic milestones in the company's development. While we started the business in 2017 by bringing Online Boat Auctions to Asia, the BASCO vision of being a comprehensive Boat Advisory Services Co to the entire boating community, has relentlessly been built in the background over the last 5-years. After building out the most comprehensive range of services for boating enthusiasts, it was time to position the company and its platforms in the market, as well as take stock of what had been achieved to date, find new areas of opportunity, then to focus and pull it all together in a coherent plan that the BASCO management can execute going forward. I'm very happy with the two projects and really appreciate the dedication and hard work that's been put in by our talented consultants over the last 2-years. And a big thanks to Enterprise Singapore for supporting the BASCO vision, we couldn't have done it without you." • Seasonal Maintenance Tips Every Boat Owner in Asia Pacific Should Know

But the climate here is unique too. Instead of four classic seasons, boat owners often face hot and humid summers, heavy monsoons, and long dry spells. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza | BASCO Team < Back Share Seasonal Maintenance Tips Every Boat Owner in Asia Pacific Should Know Aziza | BASCO Team Sep 30, 2025 But the climate here is unique too. Instead of four classic seasons, boat owners often face hot and humid summers, heavy monsoons, and long dry spells. Boating in Asia Pacific is special. From island-hopping in Thailand, to sailing in the Philippines, to exploring Australia’s coastline, the experiences are unmatched. But the climate here is unique too. Instead of four classic seasons, boat owners often face hot and humid summers, heavy monsoons, and long dry spells. That means maintenance isn’t just about winter storage, it’s about protecting your boat from heat, salt, humidity, and storms. Here are some practical tips to keep your boat in top condition all year round. Dry Season: Maximize Use, Minimize Wear During the dry months, the weather is perfect for boating. But because you’ll be using the boat more often, little issues can build up quickly. Keep a close eye on fluids like oil, coolant, and fuel. Inspect belts and hoses before long trips. In tropical heat, batteries drain faster, so regular charging or replacement is key. Saltwater exposure is also heavier during this season. Make rinsing with fresh water a routine after every trip. Pay attention to metal fittings and electronics, as the salt air can corrode them faster than you’d expect. Wet or Monsoon Season: Focus on Protection When the heavy rains and storms roll in, your boat needs protection above all else. This is the season to double-check covers, seals, and bilge pumps. Make sure water cannot pool in or around the boat. Ventilation is equally important, high humidity encourages mold and mildew, which can quickly ruin upholstery and interiors. If your region is prone to typhoons or cyclones, take storm preparation seriously. Secure your boat in a sheltered marina or haul it out of the water if warnings are issued. Strong lines, proper anchors, and quality covers can make all the difference when the weather turns violent. Year-Round Essentials: The Non-Negotiables In Asia Pacific, where boating conditions can shift quickly, a few tasks should never wait for a “season.” These include: Regularly inspecting the hull for cracks, blisters, or barnacle growth. Flushing engines with fresh water after saltwater runs. Keeping safety equipment like life vests, radios, and flares in working order. Checking electrical systems, as humidity is tough on wiring. Off-Season or Storage: Plan Ahead If you store your boat during certain months, give it a proper shutdown. Drain water systems, disconnect batteries, and use a tight-fitting cover to protect from rain, dust, and pests. For boats stored outdoors, raised blocks and breathable covers can reduce damage from constant dampness. Unlike cooler climates where boats hibernate in winter, Asia Pacific boats are exposed to salt, sun, and storms almost year-round. Without routine maintenance, problems don’t just appear, they multiply. Staying on top of seasonal care keeps your boat safe, saves money, and ensures that when the skies clear, you’re ready to enjoy the water without worry. Owning a boat in the Asia Pacific is a privilege. The turquoise waters, coral reefs, and endless coastlines are worth every effort. But the region’s unique weather patterns demand smart maintenance habits. Think of it as protecting your ticket to freedom on the water. Tend to your boat in the dry months, shield it during the wet, and never skip the small checks. The reward? More smooth journeys, fewer costly surprises, and peace of mind every time you set sail. Search and rescue operations are ongoing as the yachting community holds its breath. The Turkish yachting industry is in shock as the search continues for Halit Yukay, founder and CEO of Mazu Yachts, who has gone missing at sea. His 12.2-meter yacht, Graywolf , was found wrecked and partially submerged off Marmara Island, but no sign of Yukay has been discovered on board. Yukay departed alone from Yalova Setur Marina on August 4, heading toward Greece. He was last seen on security footage leaving the dock around 15:10. When his family could not reach him later that evening, they contacted the Turkish Coast Guard. On August 5 at around 14:30, the crew of a passing commercial ship reported sighting a damaged vessel near the Kapıdağ Peninsula. Authorities confirmed it was Graywolf , but Yukay was not aboard. Since then, Turkish authorities have launched a full-scale search and rescue operation. The mission includes a helicopter, seven surface vessels, and a dedicated diving team. So far, no additional evidence has surfaced. The cause of the yacht’s severe damage remains unknown, and an investigation is currently underway by the Marmara Public Prosecutor’s Office. The boating community, both in Turkey and internationally, is anxiously awaiting updates. Mazu Yachts is known for its handcrafted, high-performance vessels. Since its founding in 2011, the company has carved out a strong reputation for sleek, custom-designed yachts ranging from 11 to 40 meters. Halit Yukay was more than just a shipbuilder. He was an innovator, a sailor at heart, and a driving force behind Turkey’s rise in the luxury yacht sector. Starting his journey as a teenage boatbuilder, he went on to lead one of the country’s most admired marine brands. His absence is being felt deeply across the industry. Mazu’s design philosophy blends strength with elegance. Under Yukay’s leadership, the company pushed boundaries and attracted a loyal international clientele. His disappearance has sent ripples through the yachting world, as clients, colleagues, and friends rally in hope and support. As of now, the search continues. The boating community remains united, praying for a breakthrough Media Gallery ← Previous Next →

  • Yanmar Goes from Yacht Engines to Dutch Football Ownership

The Japanese engine maker, Yanmar, has just signed an agreement to acquire Almere City FC, a professional football club in the Netherlands. The deal includes not just the team, but also the entire stadium, pending approval from Dutch football authorities. Do you have a Yanmar engine in your yacht? Now they own a football club too! If your yacht runs on a Yanmar engine, here’s something interesting. Yanmar is now stepping off the dock and onto the pitch. The Japanese engine maker, Yanmar, has just signed an agreement to acquire Almere City FC, a professional football club in the Netherlands. The deal includes not just the team, but also the entire stadium, pending approval from Dutch football authorities. This isn’t a sudden move. Yanmar has been part of the Almere community since 1989 and has been sponsoring the club’s stadium for over ten years. The company says this new step will help deepen their connection to the city, the region, and its people. Yanmar is no stranger to football either, they’ve owned Cerezo Osaka in Japan since the 1950s. So, while their marine engines keep yachts moving, their football investments are now helping clubs grow on another kind of turf. For yacht owners, this might just be an interesting side note, but it does reflect a broader picture. Yanmar isn’t only about precision mechanics; they’re also investing in long-term relationships, whether it’s with customers at sea or communities on land. According to Yanmar Europe CEO Samir Laoukili, it’s about more than business: “It’s our passion for the game and the community that drives us.” With the Kroonenberg Groep staying on as the club’s main sponsor, it looks like Almere City FC is set to benefit from both local support and international experience. So next time you hear that smooth “hum” from your Yanmar engine, remember, it now powers more than your boat. It’s also part of the game. Media Gallery ← Previous Next →
