- Boat for Sale Singapore 2007 Bondway 70' Houseboat Sold
Successful mix of owners who were clear about selling their boat, correct pricing to the market and excellent follow up. < Back Boat for Sale Singapore 2007 Bondway 70' Houseboat Sold Share Successful mix of owners who were clear about selling their boat, correct pricing to the market and excellent follow up. Client testimonial: "We both bought and sold our boat with William and Dione. Very nice to deal with, good follow up and lots of helpful advice for everyone involved. It was awesome because BASCO is very friendly to deal with, excellent follow-up and lots of good advice for everyone involved." Thank you Simon & Marion, it was a pleasure to sell your beautiful 2007 Bondway 70' Houseboat. We hope you enjoy the next stage of your adventures! Case Study Background The boat owners purchased the houseboat through BASCO approximately 7 years prior and due to entering their retirement phase of life with different plans and countries for retirement adventures, they decided that they would investigate putting their boat for sale on the market sooner rather than later. They had observed the length of time it had typically taken for boats to sell in the pre-pandemic houseboat sale market. Initial Consultations It was apparent that the owners were serious and realistic about selling their houseboat and wished to prepare in advance for their next adventures in their life. As houseboat purchasers, they already understood the issues, risks and intricacies of buying a registered liveaboard houseboat in Singapore. The main issues to be discussed were The current market demand and recent sales and prices The expected price range for a houseboat such as theirs How long it would likely take for a sale to occur The level of market awareness and paid marketing that should be invested into the houseboat for sale project given items 1-3 above The pricing strategy and best listing option To understand more about the different ways to sell your boat, see our blog here "What Does it Cost to Sell Your Boat?" Next Steps The first thing the BASCO team did, was to research all the houseboat sales in the last 24 months. Since BASCO is the leading sales team for houseboats for sale in Singapore, much of this information was in-house and already known. In addition, checking their private database of boats for sale and transacted prices was also done to review houseboats still on the market after a long time as well as those that had transacted. Proposal An exclusive, traditional boat brokerage service was recommended in the first instance. Due to the increased market demand following the pandemic uptick in people buying boats globally, and the realistic price expectations of the owners, it was assessed that in the first instance, specialist marketing wouldn't be needed. If, after 3-months of traditional marketing, the enquiries and offers were less than expected, we could review and implement the next step in the plan! Results The boat reached a successful sales conclusion 6-months within listing. This was the third written offer received. Additionally the houseboat generated 36 enquiries had 12 viewings and more than 10,000 social views. What worked particularly well with this project? We knew the market inside and out The owners were serious about selling (and moving on with their lives) The owners were market aware also The buyer was easy going, fun, knowledgeable and moved fast Great boat, nice people, matched expectations, game on! What was challenging about this project? There was very little challenging about this boat sale, which is unusual (and welcomed!). The limited numbers per viewing / per day due to the pandemic created some scheduling challenges from time to time, and with the Open "House" numbers as well. The biggest challenge and disappointment to overcome was that the first deal, signed and agreed, fell over at the last minute. This was the biggest challenge then overcome by selling the boat to another buyer. All in all a great project and all parties are happy! Project Gallery Previous Next

- First Time Boat Buyers Face 3 Main Challenges
I’ve put together a list of 3 main challenges first time boat buyers face and how to overcome them. - Basco Boating News - Written by Aziza Ahmed < Back Share First Time Boat Buyers Face 3 Main Challenges Aziza Ahmed Feb 22, 2022 I’ve put together a list of 3 main challenges first time boat buyers face and how to overcome them. Buying a boat is exciting but it can also be overwhelming, especially when you’re buying your first boat. You may not know where to start or what questions to ask. It’s hard to know if the boat you want is right for you or if it will fit your style. The size of the boat and how much money you want to spend are important considerations as well. This article will help you to discover 3 main challenges first-time boat buyers face. Challenge #1 : Not Knowing Who to Trust In a research done by Grow Boating, 70% of first-time boat buyers struggled to find someone they trusted to help them understand how to buy a boat. The first challenge is finding someone you can trust to help guide you through the process. You want a reputable dealer and an experienced captain. Finding a knowledgeable and trustworthy person who will give you the information you need and explain everything thoroughly is one of the most important steps in the boat buying process. Challenge #2 : Being New to the Market Buying a boat is not like buying any other type of property. It’s more than just making a purchase, it’s an investment in your future. Most first time buyers find that they don't know much about boats or the market. They often feel lost and unsure of how much to spend. The question is ,“Do new boaters pay more?”, answer is YES. This is about new boaters paying more than experienced boaters. So you’re the “new kid on the block” or the water. Challenge #3 : Information Overload It can be difficult to find the perfect boat if you're overwhelmed with too much information. There is information overload yet there are information gaps. What does information overload look like? I know boat buying can be overwhelming. There are tons of choices, countless boating blogs, boat forums, and so many boat salesmen. How do you sort through all the information out there, and decide where to spend your hard earned money? There is no shortage of information on the internet. What is missing is there is no clear path to get you from point A to point B. There is a lot of industry insider information so you’ll sense it’s quite difficult to find answers to some of the common questions like how much does it cost to own and operate a boat. So, if you want to buy a boat, be sure to do your research before buying. And if you need help from a reliable source, get a BASCO with you. So that they can provide assistance and advice. Even the best boaters will admit that the early stages of ownership can be challenging. However, with perseverance and good guidance, most new owners will be able to overcome the main challenges associated with investing in their first boat, before being able to enjoy it for years to come. New Technology Driving Growth The conference also highlighted how technology is changing the marine industry . Speakers shared new tools, software, and systems that are improving safety, making operations faster, and saving money. For example, automation, digital shipbuilding, and smart navigation systems are helping businesses stay competitive in global markets. 3. Recognising Success and Looking Ahead At the event, several Australian businesses were honoured for their achievements in export, innovation, and sustainability . The discussions also focused on preparing for the future, from dealing with changing market trends to building strong business strategies. Government leaders who attended spoke about support for local marine businesses, and how industry and government can work together for long-term success. ASMEX 2025 demonstrated that the marine industry is not just riding the tide of change, it’s steering the course. Through sustainability, technology, and strategic leadership, Australia’s marine sector is preparing to thrive in a future defined by responsibility and innovation. If you're still not sure which is the best way to go, read the blog below which gives the pros and cons of different boat sale options. The Four Most Common Ways To Sell a Boat 1. Do-It-Yourself (DIY). 2. Appoint an Agent. 3. List with a Traditional Boat Broker. 4. List with a Digital Boat Brokerage that provides Enhanced Brokerage. Let’s begin by breaking down each of your options. 1. Sell Your Boat Yourself (DIY) Selling it yourself is most suitable for boats that are: – Lower value boats, under USD100k. – Easy to sell or likely to sell quickly. – Less complex and propose less risk. And for boat owners that have: – Boatloads of time and inclination to do the ground work. – The sales experience or closing skills to make the sale. – No desire to pay commissions to brokers. Conversely, do it yourself isn’t well suited for boats that are: – Higher value with more complexity and risk. – Hard to sell, e.g., limited demand or niche, very old, run-down, or is a “project boat.” – Suffering because they have been on the market for a long time. Or for boat owners that: – Are busy or pressed for time. – Don’t have a large network of people. – May lose the sale if they speak with the buyer! Pros – Low cost, no fees or commission payable. Cons – Labor intensive for the boat owner. – Higher risk of boat deal falling apart at the 11th hour. – Risks from inexperience with paperwork, agreements, or post survey negotiations. – Boat owner loses the sale due to sales inexperience. A DIY Boat Sale Means You’re in the Drivers Seat of Your Boat Sale 2. Appoint an Agent to Sell Your Boat Some owners appoint people that they know as their agent. Many times, the agent has no boat experience or network so the agent reaches out to many boat brokers, hoping one of the brokers has a buyer. Typically, there is a co-brokerage agreement where the agent splits the commission with the boat broker who brings a buyer. Pros – Boat owners know and trust the agent. Cons – Agent might have little to no experience selling boats. – Commission split may prevent brokers from bringing a buyer to the table. 3. List with a Traditional Boat Broker The help of a traditional boat broker is fitting for boats that are: – Over USD100k. – Easy to sell or likely to sell quickly. – In the 10% of boats that sell fast, even in a buyers’ market. And for boat owners who: – Don’t have the time, inclination, or deal closing skills. – Have exhausted their own network of buyers. – Are OK to go with the flow and it sells when it sells. Using a traditional boat broker isn’t as suitable for boats that: – Are hard to sell. – Have been on the market for a long time. – Require niche marketing. Or for boat owners who want: – Certainty and a tight timeline to sell. – A fast sale, right now, at the highest price. Pros – You don’t pay for their time so you can change your mind and pay nothing. – If you’re in a sellers’ market, with a popular boat, it may sell quickly. – The boat owner has to put in little effort. Cons – Unless your boat sells quickly, it will sit with little broker initiative. – Brokers typically only are proactive with the 10% of boats that sell quickly. – Quality of service may feel low for the 10% commission paid. – The only plan to stimulate inquiries is reducing the price. – Boats that don’t sell quickly begin to depreciate, deteriorate and continue to incur holding costs. - A Traditional Boat Broker may Lose Initiative or Proactivity if Your Boat Doesn’t Sell Quickly 4. List with a Digital Boat Brokerage that provides Enhanced Brokerage There is an elite service called Enhanced Brokerage offered by Digital Boat Brokers. Digital Brokers are specialists in marketing boats. Especially global internet marketing that has more depth and breadth of reach to potential buyers. Different packages are designed to meet your specific goals, as described below. Commission structures are disrupting the traditional boat brokerage model and are driving transaction costs down. Employing the services of an Digital Boat Brokerage is highly recommended for boats that are: – High ticket, fast sale at a good price – Languishing on the market for a long time or requiring niche marketing to reach their buyer. – Hard to sell, e.g., older boat or run-down, or is a “project boat.” And for select boat owners who: – Demand results in a specific time frame. – Are serious about having an elite boat broker sell their boat. – Need a project manager to get the deal closed. Employing a Digital Boat Broker is NOT advised for boat owners who: – Aren’t serious about selling. – Want to test the market. – Don’t mind how long it takes for their boat to sell. – Are okay going with the flow. Pros – Guaranteed outcomes and results depending on the selected package. – Certainty in the timeline to a sale. – Best commission structure. – Maximum marketing exposure for your boat. – No exclusive brokerage agreement. – Project manager directing a team according to your specific marketing plan. – Fees paid are 100% offset against eventual sales commission. Cons – There is a monthly fee for the exclusive service you receive. – There’s no refund if an owner changes their mind and decides not to sell. A Digital Boat Brokerage has More Depth and Breadth of Reach to Potential Buyers Choosing the best option Occasionally the stars align and a boat owner finds a buyer that wants to pay top dollar to buy their boat yesterday and doesn’t have to pay a commission. We call these unicorn deals the “OMG, that’s amazing!!!” boat sale. However, reality is that boat owners are at a loss to know where to find potential buyers. Moreover, many boat owners have an emotional attachment to their boat. This clouds their ability to properly estimate the market value of their boat and the length of time to close the deal. Finally, the process of selling a boat overwhelms some boat owners : the endless calls, enquiries, social media messages, showings, sea trials, regulations, paperwork, etc. So, whether you go DIY or employ a full-service elite broker to handle every aspect of the deal, this is what everyone would love to happen. Happy seller, happy buyer, happy broker. That said, a seller needs to know what the next steps are if they don’t get to enjoy an immediate sale. A savvy boat seller needs to ask their broker, “what is the plan to keep the sale project on track?” A Quick Quiz We advise boat sellers to answer three questions to get clear on the best strategy for selling their boat. The combination of answers will highlight the best option in your situation. 1. What kind of boat sale are you expecting? a. OMG that amazing! b. As fast as possible. c. Whenever it happens. 2. Which statement best describes you? a. I’m in a hurry to sell at the high price possible. b. If someone offers the right price, I’m ready to sell. c. I know what my boat’s worth so that’s what I expect to get for it. 3. There are different levels of service available so which level is right for you? a. High — I want someone to handle all the details and get the results. b. Mid — I’ll get an agent or list with a traditional broker. c. Low — I’ll do it myself. By answering these three questions and understanding your goals and objectives you will be able to select the perfect option.
